Guidelines
ButterMochi Journal publishes on a quarterly basis. We look for thoughtful, original, and heartfelt work that sustains us. Work that connects our cultures in colorful and honest ways. We want work that is uniquely and culturally you.
We welcome submissions from anyone ages 13-25, with preference for those of Asian and Pacific Islander (API) origin or based in Hawai'i.
Genres:
Poetry: You may send up to three (3) poems.
- We accept poetry in any form or style.
Prose: You may send up to two (2) pieces of writing, 5,000 words maximum per piece
- Fiction, short stories, flash fiction, creative non-fiction, etc.
Art and Photography: You may send up to three (3) images.
- Please include the name of the piece, medium, and a description.
Blog: You may send up to two (2) pieces of writing, 5,000 words maximum per piece
We accept all year round, from any age.
- Blog/Literary Article, Personal Memoir, Critical Essay, etc.
- We do not accept fiction or poetry for our blog unless:
- Writing excerpt from an upcoming book/collection
- Author's Feature
All written pieces must be in 12-point font/Times New Roman/Double Spaced.

We allow previously published work (with consent from the original publication) and simultaneous submissions.

We do not accept work that is plagiarized, AI-generated, or promotes discrimination of any form (sexism, racism, homophobia, etc.)

Provide a third-person bio including your name (or pen name), age, location, and other interests.

While we prefer submissions be in English, we encourage phrases in other languages with translations.

Author's Right

All authors own the rights to the work they submit.

All authors have the right to take down their work after accepting publication if requested (please contact buttermochi.journal@gmail.com)

If accepted, you give ButterMochi Journal non-exclusive electronic rights to publish your work in our online issue or blog, as well as permission to make edits and promote excerpts on our social media.

We ask for archival rights to keep your work in our journal's archive.

We will never use your work for monetary gain.
